- I am Mexican
- I LOVE Mexico
- Hablo español
There are few places in the world that rival the sheer vibrancy of the culture in Mexico. In fact, as I stated earlier, the country seems to breathe with life – it’s incredible! However, there are so many intricacies and vast differences in the cultures across this grand country that to point out subtle nuances and apply it to Mexico as a whole would be generalizing. And, that is exactly what I did – so for that, I do sincerely apologize. The readers were absolutely correct in their assessments (well, some of them) of that post.
Although, I would like to point out, that all of the bullet statements on corruption, police, NAFTA, politics, are taken directly from text books, influential Mexican officials, and EGADE professors and Mexican students. However, the observations on coffee, taxistas, cookies, fruit, etc stemmed from my brief exposure to the town of Monterrey.
In closing, I want to reiterate that I would not trade my time in Mexico for anything. And, to the surprise of most people, I would return in a heartbeat. Mexico is an extraordinary country that is unfortunately plagued by a bad ‘wrap’ across the globe. True, the country is fraught with issues and problems faced by many countries worldwide, however the richness of the culture, beauty of the country, and vibrancy of most of the people, for me, outweigh and overpower the negative image exacerbated by the media.
