EGADE – El primer dia de mis clases…

Monterrey is amazing!!! I love it here!! I wish I had more time to explore a bit more, but class is getting in the way!

And, what a better way to kick off the spring semester than with four hours of accounting?!! Prior to this torture session, a caravan of 25 or so Tbirds set off to hit EGADE for the first time this morning. I was pleasantly surprised that we had a cab driver who could not only read street signs, but actually seemed to know where he was going! Meike and I seem to have bad luck with the fake, illiterate, and mildly retarded taxistas. But, we arrived just in time for a complimentary breakfast of huevos and some sort of beef jerky, and spicy tortilla things, and fresh fruit (sorry for the cryptic descriptions, for some reason, I can never remember all the specifics of menu items). At our table we had the pleasure of sitting with our new corporate finance professor. Carlos was very nice, except for the fact he was slightly disappointed we didn’t bring our books! Oops! Are you kidding me, that book is huge! It was either the book, or a couple extra pairs of jeans! The clothes won out! Although, I am proud to say, I did bring along my accounting book. Fast forwarding to accounting class this morning, after about 30 minutes of introductions, our professor had to run out, so we had a nice hour break to walk around and take pictures!

Despite starting late, an hour break, and even ending early, the remaining class time was pretty rough. This class is going to require some definite studying on my part. I hope we have some good TAs here in Mexico!! Class is scheduled for 3.5 hour blocks once a week. Not so sure how I feel about that yet… but at least that gives us more time to complete assignments! And, speaking of assignments… cross-cultural comm is on the horizon…
